In the service, we earmark a section of our fossil-free transportation to Kiilto. Green Freight is based on the international Book & Claim model: the customer pays for fossil-free transportation, and we at Posti ensure that a corresponding amount of fossil-free transportation is produced in our network, based on an international allocation standard.
Together towards shared environmental goals
The Green Freight service is a great example of how big players like Posti and Kiilto can work together to meet their own and shared goals.
Kiilto wants to be the environmental leader in their field of business, and Kiilto’s Promise to the Environment guides all their operations. Kiilto for example strives to be carbon neutral in its own operations by 2028. Meanwhile, we at Posti have set an ambitious objective to operate fossil-free by 2030 and be on net-zero when it comes to our emissions by 2040.
“Promise to the Environment is one of the cornerstones of our culture, and that’s why the Green Freight service was a natural choice for us. We can track progress clearly from Posti’s reports. Already during the beginning of the year, the greenhouse emissions in Posti’s freight deliveries that were created during driving decreased by 90 percent, which is over our target,” says Kiilto logistics manager Annika Valenius.
The change also serves Kiilto’s customers and their environmental goals. “Customers are environmentally conscious when they choose us and are interested in our choices, as well,” Annika points out.
Smooth cooperation in freight deliveries
Kiilto has been satisfied with their cooperation with Posti. In addition to smooth everyday operations, they find it important that the new service allows both companies to pursue more sustainable business together.
